Olivia Lynn released her 9th single “You’re No Good” on 16th May 2025 and it’s about when you fall out of a relationship and realise that you’re no longer compatible together.
Writing in her own unique Country Pop style, she draws on real life experiences to engage the audience and becomes both relevant and relatable at the same time.

“I wish you knew, the hold you have on me. Grab my neck hold me tight make me feel like I can’t breathe. All emotional, that’s all you can see, make me cry in the sofa downstairs whilst you watch tv. You, you always said, it’s in my head. Oh oh, you, you always knew, what I been through.”
Some of her lyrics make me think how this also relates to our relationship with ourselves. Starting with a powerful and emotive lyric “I wish you knew, the hold you have on me” not only speaks to how captivated and in love you once were but is also poetic in so much as it’s alter egos communicating and conflicting.
Personally, the lyrics are equally as powerful when we shift the perspective from an external relationship to an internal one. Whilst there may not be another physical person causing you to doubt yourself, it doesn’t make it any different. It’s still something to overcome, manage and deal with.
How we feel can be presented in many different ways, sometimes it’s being seemingly emotional or hysterical. This is perhaps a sign of being overwhelmed or overstimulated. You perhaps shut yourself away crying, releasing this built up emotion instead doing things you enjoy or relaxing in front of the TV. Reference to being in one’s head whilst perhaps true, isn’t always helpful to hear. Equally, it could be your inner conscious realising that it’s not a healthy behaviour, or you’re not in a good space and knowing what you’ve been through, are becoming ever more accepting of seeking help, in which ever form best suits your needs.
“It’s what you do, you flip it all on me. Scream and shout in my face, eyes of tears so I can’t see. I’m human too. You say I’m crazy, not happy.”
This lyric really delves into the psychological games, flipping things we know to be true to perhaps not be or visa versa, causing self doubt and self esteem issues. The only way we can process our emotions is by allowing ourselves to overflow by whichever means necessary, screaming, shouting or crying to name a few. Simply though we should remember that at we’re all human too; and whilst they may not feel particularly natural or the right choice in the moment, you’re allowing yourself the chance to breathe in that moment however challenging that may be. You’re processing it your way. As for the perception of others, some may say they’re mirrors reflecting our thoughts and feelings, but truthfully no-one really knows what each other think so who cares. Be your authentic self, own it and be proud of it!
Whilst the song is a reflection of a relationship no longer working out, this title can also be used to reference “You’re no good” in this state. Simply saying “You’re no good” is very damaging and demoralising, and on its own without context is not particularly constructive. Society and communities are about lifting others up, being kind, so if we must say “You’re no good”, give it context and meaning so that person can take the lessons forward, improve themselves and their life.
“You’re no Good” was released 16th May 2025 and is available to stream on your usual music platforms. If you’re wanting to see Olivia and her band in action she’ll be performing at Lil Nashville Country Bar & Kitchen 2nd August, at 9pm, returning 6th September with her guitarist.
